Sailing
Sailing as a sport has several different activities and the sailing competitions involve several types of vessels divided into classes. These competitions are a series of regattas, in each regatta several marks are given to each vessel and to its crew, being the winner of the regatta the one who has less accumulated marks.
Sailing is a significant activity in Madeira. There are several regional, national and international competitions, such as Troféu Brisa, Campeonato de Portugal Juniores, Regata Internacional Canárias-Madeira and the Circuito ISAF Taça das Nações.
Besides the sportive aspect, this activity has its leisure side which is as well very attractive. Again, the mild climate of this archipelago allows the amateur and professional sailors to enjoy this practice all over the year.
In Madeira there are several entities that provide courses and equipment to whom is interested in starting this practice, allowing the enjoyment that this practice can give.
