Madeira University

On November 13, 1988, with the Law no. 319-A-88, the University of Madeira was born, in order to create an excellence pole for the transmission of scientific, technologic and cultural knowledge to the Autonomous Region of Madeira and to the country.

The University has, among other interests, the human education, at his highest level and in its different variables. The cultural, scientific and technical exchange with similar national and international institutions, enriching namely the culture of the Madeira Archpelago, the applied investigation and the experimental development inheritance.

This University has special care with the specificities of the Autonomous region in which it is integrated, collaborating in the national and regional educational, scientific and cultural politics.

The University Rectory is located in the Jesuits College in the historical centre of the city of Funchal and the University Campus is located in “Penteada”.
