Madeira Botanical Garden

One of the main objectives of this garden is to promote and to develop the scientific investigation in botanical domains, in collaboration with national and foreign entities, which develop similar projects. There we can also find the following activities:

1.To encourage and spread the study of the regional flora;

2.To select, multiply and distribute plants according to its scientific, decorative or economic interest;

3.To ensure the maintenance of the herbarium;

4.To promote, perform and participate in studies and scientific experiences in flower gardening and forestry;

5.To proceed to the introduction and acclimatization of plants;

6.To support the eradication, whenever necessary, of flora species that may have infesting characteristics;

7.To encourage the introduction and recovery of endemic vegetal species considered rare or in danger of extinction;

8 -To make an inventory and cataloging trees and plants with great scientific interest, as well as ensure its maintenance and preservation.

The garden is open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
