Distribution and Habitat: It is originally from Vietnam and it is widely cultivated in Madeira due to its high commercial value.

Description: This bulbous plant may reach up to 1 m in height. Its leaves are linear, green and shiny. The blossoms have between 12 and 25 flowers with a varied colouration and a purplish lip (inferior petal of the orchids' corolla). The roots are thick and fleshy, to which thin and fibrous roots are linked. The fruit is a capsule that opens when it becomes dry to release small light seeds.
