Distribution and Habitat: Its origin is in the South Africa and it is widely cultivated in Madeira due to its high commercial value.

Description: Exotic, tropical and perennial plant that may reach 1 m in height. The leaves are green, shiny, rough and shovel-shaped. The flowers resemble the head of bird known as the bird of paradise, due to its unique shape and blue and range colouration, this is why this is one of the plant's possible designations.
