Distribution and Habitat: Originating from Australia and Tasmania, it is widely spread throughout the region.
Description: This large tree reaches 65 m in height and its trunk has a flat, grey or brown bark. The juvenile leaves are greyish and ovate-shaped. The adult leaves are narrow and wide, spear shaped, and tough with distinct petioles. Generally, it presents a solitary axillary flower with short white peduncles. The fruit is woody capsule.
Conservation statute and Threats: -
Observations: This exotic species had such a proliferation in the region that, in some zones, it became infesting. Currently, a campain to eradicate it is being carried out in the Funchal Ecological Park. Blooming season is during the winter months.
