Distribution and Habitat: Its origin is Tropical Asia and is widely cultivated in Madeira due to its high commercial value.

Description: It is a large tree, that may reach 30 m in height, its bark is wrinkled, dark grey and fibrous. The blossoms are aromatic and greenish yellow. The leaves accumulate on the tips of the branches and have between 10 and 30 cm of length, they are oblong or lance shaped and have a shiny dark green colouration. The fruit, the mango, is bulky, with green, yellowish and orange-like colourations, and has a juicy, fibrous pulp with a yellow or orange colour and a large pit (seed) in its interior.
