Besides the species that represent the Laurissilva forest, there are many others exclusive of the archipelago that do not occur spontaneously in any other part of the world. Among these, we would like to mention the Golden Musschia (Musschia aurea), which only exists in Madeira and in the Desertas, and the beautiful Dragon Tree (Dracaena draco), endemic of the archipelagos that compose the Macronesia. These endemicities have resulted from a long evolutional process of speciation that benefited from the isolation and ecological differences, characteristic of the islands.
