Distribution and Habitat: It is endemic of Macronesia and it is specific of the Madeira's Laurissilva, where it grows in moist places and sheltered ravines, mostly between 400 and 1100 m. This species may be seen in some places in Tabúa, Paúl do Mar and Santana.
Description: This shrub or small tree may reach a height of 8 m. Its stem is grey and soft, with blossomings richer in flowers (red) than in fruits.
Conservation statute and Threats: Abundant species, under the statutes ascribed to the Laurissilva forest. Blooming season is from February to July.
