Distribution and Habitat: It is present in all the islands of the Madeira Archipelago. It occurs mostly in rocky areas (from rocky beaches to mountainous peaks).

Conservation statute and Threats: Not threatened. This species is protected by Annex IV of the European Directive of Fauna and Flora Habitats 92/43/EEC and by Annex II of the Berne Convention.
Observations: Oviparous species. In dangerous situations, it loses its tail (regenerating in 2 weeks time, maximum).
