Distribution and Habitat: Lonely animal that inhabits the forest areas of the Madeira Island.
Description: Small carnivorous animal, with short legs and a tail that may measure up to 14 cm. It has a dull black colouration on its back that is brighter on the sides; the belly is completely dark. Males are bigger than females, measuring approx. 45 cm, while females measure only 40 cm. Females also distinguish themselves from the males through by having a vaginal opening.
