Distribution and Habitat: It is a domestic animal, common in Madeira and Porto Santo.

Description: It is the most versatile of all ruminants concerning feeding habits; that is why it quickly became domestic. They are small but strong animals, covered with short dark grey fur and with short thin legs. Its head is triangular and it has horns, which, in males, are bigger than in females and are open in a spiral.

Conservation statute and Threats: -

Observations: In the past, it also inhabited the Deserta Grande and Bugio, however, a plan was later implemented for the removal of these herbivores because they were endangering some of the archipelago's unique species.
