Scientific name: Catopsilia florella (Fabricius, 1775)

Distribution and Habitat: It is common on the African continent and it is the most recent introduction in Madeira, where it has been detected for the first time in Funchal, in 1999. Migratory resident.

Description: Its size may be 50-65 mm. The male's colouration is white with a distinct greenish shade, the forewings have a small black dot in the disk area. The female is yellow; the forewings have small dark brown spots in the apex and on the external edge. The disk point is bigger and dark brown instead of black.

Conservation statute and Threats: Not very common.

Observations: In Madeira caterpillars have been seen feeding on Cassia, common in public and private gardens.
