Distribution and Habitat: This butterfly is very common in Madeira all year long. It is very active and is seen flying close to the ground. Although it is more common at low altitudes, it may often be ssen above 1500 m. Migratory resident.

Description: Its size may be 50-55 mm. The forewings are orange or yellow (white in some varieties), with a wide black embroidery. The male has a continuous black stripe around the wings, while the female has yellow maks on that stripe.
