Distribution and Habitat: It is not common in Madeira and it is rarely seen in the Desertas and Porto Santo islands. It flies in gardens and open spaces where there are flowers and is attracted by rotten fruit.

Description: Males and females are similar in their aspect. The males' size may be 62-73 mm and the females' 70-76 mm. Black forewings with bright red and white marks.

Conservation statute and Threats: Although it is very scarce in the archipelago, it is largely spread out worldwide.
