Distribution and Habitat: Macronesian endemic subspecies. It occurs in the Madeira Archipelago, exclusively in the Madeira island. It may be observed in the most diverse habitats.

Description: It presents an accentuated sexual dimorphism. Females have a brown plumage and bill, while males have a black body and a strong yellow bill.

Conservation statute and Threats: No threat is identified for this bird. Subspecies of minor concern. Population of approx. 10,000 individuals that presents a wide area of occurrence.

Observations: Extremely abundant species in the Madeira Island, from the seaside areas to the highest mountains, and more rare on the Porto Santo Island.
