Distribution and Habitat: Macronesian endemic subspecies. It occurs in the Madeira Archipelago, in the Madeira, Desertas and Porto Santo islands, in open areas sparsely vegetated or with low growing vegetation.

Description: This bird may be identified almost exclusively by its outline and by the way it moves on the ground, shown through its name, Berthelots Pipit. Distinguishing this subspecies from the Anthus bertheloti bertheloti, subspecies that occurs in the Selvagens islands, is almost impossible on the field.

Conservation statute and Threats: Subspecies of minor concern. Population of approx. 10.000 individuals that presents a wide area of occurrence.

Observations: This subspecies is abundant in the Madeira, Porto Santo and Desertas islands.
