Distribution and Habitat: Macronesian endemic subspecies. It occurs in the Madeira Archipelago, in the Selvagem Grande and in the Selvagem Pequena, in plateaus.
Description: This bird may be identified exclusively by its outline and by the way it moves on the ground, shown through its name, Berthelots Pipit. Distinguishing this subspecies from the Anthus bertheloti madeirensis, a subspecies that occurs in the Madeira, Porto Santo and Desertas islands, is almost impossible on the field.
Conservation statute and Threats: Vulnerable subspecies. Small population that presents a limited area of occurrence.
Observations: This subspecies is common in the Selvagens islands, particularly in the Selvagem Grande, where in 1990 the population was estimated to be 300-400 individuals.
