Scientific name: Padina pavonica (Linnaeus) Thivy

Distribution and Habitat: It is present in the Northwest of the Atlantic Ocean (from the British Islands to Mauritania), in the Mediterranean and Black Seas. It occurs from the surface to a depth of 20 m or more, as in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Description: Its thallus is smooth, flat and fan shaped, it has a limestone deposit at the surface and a hem at the upper edge. It is yellowish brown and it may reach a height of  2 cm to 15 cm.

Observations: It is an annual species (more abundant in the summer), biotopical and photophilic.
