Distribution and Habitat: It is present at Northeast and Northwest of the Atlantic Ocean (from Scandinavia to Mauritania), in the Indian Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea and Red Sea. Usually, it is found anywhere between mid tide level to the infralittoral zone. Sometimes, it is epiphytic over other algae.
Description: It has a thin thallus, generally flat. It is bound to the substrate by rhyzoids. Its width varies (up to 1 cm) and it may reach 30 cm in length. It presents a light brown colouration.

Observations: It is an annual species, very abundant in the summer.
