Common name: Blue Jack Mackerel.

Scientific name: Trachurus picturatus (Bowdich, 1825)

Family: Carangidae

Distribution and Habitat: Pelagic species that may be found in up to 370 m depth.

Description: Its back is bluish grey or greenish and its belly is silver-coloured. It has a black spot on the upper edge of the operculum. It reaches up to 60 cm in length.

Conservation statute and Threats: Not evaluated.

Observations: Caught with surrounding fishing nets. In continental Portugal, however, the small ones are called scads and the big ones are what they call blue jack mackerel.
