Scientific name: Thunnus thynnus (Linnaeus, 1758)

Distribution and Habitat: Highly migratory pelagic species.

Description: Its pectoral fins are short and it has a dark blue coloration on its back, turning to grey on the sides and to white on the belly. Ttransversal silver-coloured stripes may sometimes be seen on its sides. It may measure more than 3 m in length and 560 Kg in weight.

Conservation statute and Threats: This species is protected by Annex I of the 1982 Convention on The Law of the Sea (U.N.).

Observations: Caught by Salto e Vara (Jump and Spur). It may be prepared in the following ways: fried, oven roasted, in fish stews and salted.
