Common name: Bigeye tuna.

Distribution and Habitat: Oceanic, migratory and pelagic species, that reaches 250 m depth.
Description: This is the most abundant tuna in the region. Its back is bluish grey and its belly is greyish white. The tail and pectoral fins are reddish black and the second dorsal fin has rosy edges. It reaches approx. 2,39 m in length and weighs almost 200 Kg.
Conservation statute and Threats: This species is protected by Annex I of the 1982 Convention on The Law of the Sea (U.N.).
Observations: Caught by Salto e Vara (Jump and Spur). Due to its marked obesity, in comparison to other species similar to it, it has been given the name obesus.
