Scientific name: Abudefduf luridus (Cuvier, 1830)

Distribution and Habitat: It occurs in the rocky infralittoral in depths that vary between 2 and 30 m.

Description: Species with an oblong body and a caudal fin with round lobes. Its colouration is brownish black with blue highlights, specially in the form of dots on the head. Shiny blue spot on the pectoral fin base. It reaches over 15 cm in length and, like the Azores Chromis, males protect the eggs and are equally territorial.

Conservation statutes and Threats: Not evaluated.

Observations: Caught with a sieve or fish pots. The male is territorial and chooses the place where the female should lay its eggs.
