Distribution and Habitat: Ocurrs in the rocky infralittoral to a maximum depth of 45 m.
Description: Species that presents black stripes on the edge of the dorsal and anal fins and of the caudal lobes. The youngsters have a colouration identical to the adults, sometimes being greenish. The male, who defends its territory from intruders, protects the eggs and during this period it presents a purplish-blue colouration. Its maximum length is 15 cm but, in general, it measures between 8 and 10 cm.

Observations: Caught with sieves, it is a typical dish of the fishing village Caniçal.
