Scientific name: Ophioblennius atlanticus atlanticus (Valenciennes, 1836)

Family: Blennidae

Distribution and Habitat: It may be found in the coast and lives in rock gaps.

Description: Elongated body with no scales, lower mouth and thick lips. The mandible has 3 strong canine teeth and you may notice small cirri between the eyes. Its colouration is a very dark greenish blue and the pectoral fins are rosy. It reaches 25 cm in length.

Conservation statute and Threats: Not evaluated.

Observations: Males are extremelly territorial. They protect their domains boundaries aggressively and watch over the egg laying until its hatching. It is of no commercial interest.
