Distribution and Habitat: Coastal species that inhabits the rocky bottoms forming schools of hundreds of individuals, and which may be found in up to 300 m depth.

Description: It has an almost cylindrical body and a small head with big eyes. The dorsal fin has thirteen to fifteen spines. The grey back presents bluish highlights and the white belly has silver-coloured highlights. Its maximum length is 35 cm, but generally it varies between 15 and 20 cm.

Observations: Caught with surrounding and drift fishing nets. It is a protoginic hermaphrodite species (passing from female to male).
