Distribution and Habitat: It inhabits the rocky infralittoral up to 40 m depth.
Description: Its body height is identical to the cephalic length. It has teeth in both mandibles cast in one sharp edge. It presents an accentuated sexual dimorphism. Females have a reddish body with a grey spot with yellow edges at the front dorsal. It also has a yellow spot on the upper part of the tail peduncle. Males are generally grey-coloured, with a dark spot following the operculum. Its maximum length is 50 cm.

Observations: Caught with fishing nets and eventually with fish pots or poles. The colouration of this species is determined by its gender. Females present a red colouration and males have a greyish colour.
