Scientific name: Heteroconger longissimus Günther, 1870

Distribution and Habitat: It lives in sandy bottoms between 15 and 45 m depth where it forms colonies of large numbers. It lives semi-buried in the sand.

Description: It presents a short and obtuse snout and big eyes. The pectoral fins are very small and the dorsal and anal fins are almost undefined. It has a dark brown colouration with small yellow spots. It reaches 60 cm in length.

Conservation statute and Threats: Not evaluated.

Observations: It has no commercial value but it is one of the species that most interest divers. At night, it buries itself completely and does not undertake any activity.
