The several ornamental species introduced into the archipelago adapted to the environment throughout the centuries and occur mainly in Madeira and Porto Santo, but are not confined to these islands. These species are most common at lower altitudes where some invaders' success is clearly evident (Acacia sp., Papaver somniferum and Pittosporum undulatum).
The introduced forest represents about 18% of the Madeira Island's surface, and it is essentially predominant in the southern slope of the island. This type of forest is essentially composed of pine trees, eucalyptus, silver wattles, chestnuts, walnut-trees, among others; the chestnut and the walnut-tree are perfectly adapted to Madeira
