Distribution and Habitat: It is the cultivation with the highest economical representation of Madeira, and the one that better adapts to the coldest climates, constituting the commercialisation base of the subtropical zones.

Description: Large herbaceous plant (reaching up to 3 m in height) that does not have an actual stem. The green leaves are arranged in 3 rows, in a spiral turning left. The blooming is a simple spike. The banana is characterized as being an elongated berry, more or less cylindrical, with a rounded or pointed apical edge. The surface is smooth and acquires a yellowish colouration during the fuit's ripening.
