Distribution and Habitat: Originally from South Africa. In Madeira and Porto Santo it is cultivated in gardens and on the sides of the road. It is already adapted to the Madeira Island.

Description: This shrubby and robust plant may reach 150 cm in height; it has green, narrow, juicy and overlapped leaves, with outstanding spines in the margins. The blossoms are covered with red tube shaped flowers.
