Distribution and Habitat: Its origin is Tropical America and is widely cultivated in the region due to its high commercial value.

Description: The tree's bark is greyish and it may reach 18 m in height. The leaves are green, ovate, alternate and tough. The flowers are small with a greenish white colouration; they have an accentuated and characteristic scent and are grouped in blossoms. Pear-shaped fruit with about 10 cm in length, shiny green or purplish shell, thick and creamy pulp with a yellowish beige colouration, rich in vegetal oils. It has only one seed surrounded by the soft pulp of the fruit.

Observations: It is resistant to pollution. Blooming season is from January to April.
