Distribution and Habitat: This endemic species of Madeira lives in rocky scarps located between the coastline and 500 m altitude. Less frequently, it may also be encountered in Porto Santo and in the Desertas islands.

Description: This shrub or small tree reaches 2.5 m in height and has many branches. The leaves present a variable shape. The flowers are small and white and the scarcely fleshy fruit is black when it is ripe.

Conservation statute and Threats: Common species, not threatened.

Observations: Blooming season is from March to June.
