Distribution and Habitat: Endemic species of Madeira. It may be seen in rocky scarps of the Madeira central mountain zone and in the Laurissilva, at altitudes that vary between 800 and 1700 m. It is possible to see examples of this species in Ribeiro Frio and Santana, for example.

Description: This shrub may reach a height of 2 m. It is branched, with greyish green leaves and long and dense blossoms ranging from 15 to 35 cm in size. The flowers are dark blue.

Conservation statute and Threats: Not threatened species, under the statutes ascribed to the Laurissilva forest.

Observations: Blooming season is from April to August.
