Distribution and Habitat: Endemic species of Madeira that lives in the Laurissilva and in rocky scarps on the island's inland, above 1000 m altitude. It may occur in Porto Santo, but not frequently. In Madeira, this species may be seen in Curral das Freiras.
Description: It is a small shrub that may reach a height of 1,5 m. Its stems are branched, the leaves are oval and the flowers are purplish and shiny.
Conservation statute and Threats: Abundant species, not threatened. Blooming season is from May to July.
