The Portuguese Society for Study of Birds is a non-profitable scientific association which promotes the study and preservation of birds in Portugal. It was founded on November 25, 1993, after a wish of a great number of professionals and amateurs who develop activities in the area of preservation of Ornithology and avifauna.

The main goals of this society are:

1. To promote, incentive and spread the study of bird biology and to develop scientific and technical basis for the appliance of measures of management and preservation.

2. To promote the preservation of the wild bird populations and its habitats.

3. To contribute to the validation and promotion of Ornithology, in its various aspects, through the elaboration and spreading of normative procedures of this matter.
